Founded in 1980, The Arts Society South Downs meets in the pretty West Sussex village of Fittleworth. Operating under the broader umbrella of The Arts Society based in London, we are part of a global network of Societies that connects over 90,000 people world-wide through an interest in art.
I became Chair of South Downs in October 2022 following Susi Haywood’s time in office being extended to five years during Covid. I hope to follow in her footsteps with a dedication to introduce the wonderful and diverse world of art education to our members with the help of our experienced committee and team.
I moved to Fittleworth and knew I wanted to join an Arts Society and found this Society. After a welcoming coffee morning I soon found myself on the committee in the role of Treasurer. Everything to do with art has always been a big hobby for me and now I can educate myself further in our very own Village Hall! The standard of lecturers accredited by the Arts Society is second to none. Study days and visits are an added treat during the year.
Our membership is very loyal and friendly. I enjoy meeting everyone each month, especially on visits which are a great opportunity to get to know one another in a smaller group on a day out.
I love telling my friends and family about my newfound knowledge after lectures. I hope this inspires them to find out more about our wonderful world of art and the history behind it.
If my story and enthusiasm have piqued your interest, please have a look through the website and consider joining us. Come as a visitor and try us out, your nominal visit charge will be refunded if you join.
We look forward to meeting you!
